Our harbour walking tour begins with a sightseeing of the "Elbtunnel", the oldes under-water tunnel of the world. The discovery tour leads us along the water edge to the "Elbpromenade", seeing the museum ships Rickmer Rickmers and Cap San Diego.
Alongside the uncompareable and fascinating "Hamburger Speicherstadt", the largest associated store area of the world, the most modern quarter of Hamburg is arising: the "Hafen City". One of the most modern and audacious building projects in the presence, with its urban attitude to life it will have a huge fascination to people.
Beim Besuch der Deichstraße, mit ihren Fachwerk- häusern
und ihrer mittelalterlichen Stadtidylle, fällt es schwer sich
vorzustellen, dass hier der große Brand von 1842 ausbrach,
der fast 2/3 der Stadt vernichtete. Vom Feuersturm des Zweiten Weltkriegs
schwer in Mitleiden- schaft gezogen, empfängt uns die Ruine
der St. Nikolai- Kirche am Rödingsmarkt. Dieser markiert den
Beginn der Altstadt und somit das Ende des Rundgangs.
